GREAT SUMMER
Lots of players are enjoying the new baskets. Congratulations to all the players who participated in the Homestead Hole in One. We have enjoyed back to back weekends of hot summer weather. Be sure to get your school groups booked
as the dates are filling up and we only have 2 months left of the summer season. Lots of interest for the WJ Classic so be sure to pre register your spot. It is great to see so many familiar faces as people are coming for their annual round of disc golf or their weekly round.

BASKETS INSTALLED
Tim worked late Saturday night in the dark to get the first 9 baskets installed, he was thankful there was headlights on the quad! Tim and I played to the baskets Sunday morning and it was great, it felt like I was playing a different course! Our goal is to have the back 9 ready for August 13. Installing the baskets has been a huge financial and physical challenge. I congratulate and thank Tim for his commitment to making our course a championship level course. We are excited about the future and offering a disc golf as a unique outdoor adventure.

BASKET INSTALLATION
Thanks to Craig Burrows-Johnson we were able arrange getting 18 new Innova baskets. Craig and Tim designed two target placements per hole while maintaining the integrity of the existing homestead targets. We rented an auger on
July 28 and went to work digging. Then throughout the August long weekend Tim went to work hand mixing almost 3000 lbs. of cement to build the boxes to secure the collars. He has successfully managed to get 12 holes done so far.

GREAT TO BE OUT ON THE COURSE AGAIN
Awesome to have school groups enjoying the course. Lots of spring activity, we welcome the colors of the spring wildflowers ,the noise of all the birds, and signs of wildlife. I am pleased to be joining the Leighton Art
Centre this Sunday May 29 for their Annual Clothesline Sale. They offer kids art activity, in addition I will be offering the challenge to the kids to a mini round of disc golf. We partner with the Leighton Art Center for their summer camps

Spring is on the Way - so they say?!
The snow may be melting like Crazy in Calgary though it is still more than knee deep in our parking lot. Plenty enough to get the snowmobile stuck pulling a toboggan.
Plus the Chinook winds took down several trees on course; not a new or big deal normally except when our Hole #2 Target is suspended from them, er, was suspended.

The Ultimate Winter Challenge in Disc Golf
Call us crazy, an afternoon of -25 degrees and snow up to our knees, the game of disc golf takes on a whole new level of challenge! We have customized several discs ready for winter disc golf which included securing light weight cord through a hole in the center of the disc. With a cold north wind we headed for the back nine where it was more sheltered from the wind. Lots of laughs and having Tim rescue me from a snowdrift; it was a new way of embracing winter.
Check out our short video on flickr!

Heather putting on hole 11. Amazing - 6 inches of snow really helps to STICK the putt!

Snowshoe Disc Golf
Winter has arrived and is here to stay for awhile so why not embrace it and try the adventure of a new winter sport - snowshoe disc! You do not need to drive far from home on winter roads we are just 20 minutes from Calgary. We welcome groups of 8 or more. Players are to bring their own snowshoes we provide the discs. Each disc has a cord through the center so you can find the disc in the snow. This is a great way to enjoy winter in the foothills and get a great workout. Begin or finish your round with a wiener roast. Call 403 827 0120 for more information.

A Great 2010 Season
Thank you to everyone who came out for some disc golf this season and thank to those who attended the many special events we hosted this season. Congratulations to all the winners of the WJ Classic. Thank you to our 2010 sponsors Canadian Rock Mountain Resorts, Canadian Rocky Mountain Ranch, Lifesport Calgary, Disc Sports Promotion, Switching Gear, Trail Sports, Disc Golf Canada and Chinook Honey and Meadery. The first snow arrived on Oct. 15 but we are still open for those who are up to the challenge. We have cleaned off the recreational tee boxes as they are the easiest to find under the snow. The parking lot is shaded so the snow is deeper so we suggest you park on the road unless you have good tires. Be sure to call ahead for a tee time. We will keep you informed about our winter schedule and course conditions.

Old Town Country Fair in Okotoks
I spent the afternoon at the Old Town County Fair in Okotoks on Sept. 4. Nick from KidSport invited us to be part of the fun at Ethel Tucker Park. I had a display about disc golf and people had fun learning about disc golf and trying their hand at tossing a disc into a washtub.

Leighton Art Centre Summer Camp
I spent every Friday afternoon during July and August at the Leighton Art Center. The summer camp students were introduced to disc golf during their week, then on Friday they were given the opportunity to throw a disc through a 3 hole course set up on the hill in front of the gallery. I shared information about our course and the sport of disc golf. The course included targets of a wash tub, frame and weaving loom, a little heritage and art! Each camper received a complimentary pass to play a round of disc golf so we look forward to seeing families at our course.

More Snow?
After experiencing some beautiful days of spring the snow has arrived again! Starting Thursday through Sunday the snow has closed the course to players. Two trees were cut down in order to drive down the driveway and many more trees are damaged from the heavy wet snowy conditions. However the moisture will be good for the pasture on the course. The birds sitting on their nests are suffering through the cold too.

Course Officially Open for the 2010 Season
Mother nature gave a spring snowstorm so the course opening was delayed a week, so we opened May 8. Nice to see some warmer weather and a little green, along with the shooting stars, wood violets and buttercups throughout the course. The many birds are very active with nesting activity. The horses have done a great job grazing on the course over the winter, keeping the pasture grass lower for the season. We are looking forward to our third season. Be sure to book a tee time for the Victoria Day holiday we are open 12 to 5 pm.

Spring Has Arrived at WJ Disc Golf Course
With such a warm spring the snow has melted early this year. Even though the course is not officially open until May 1 we have had numerous players in March and April.
It is great to see so many taking advantage of our membership special and heading out on the course. Check out the photos of spring at WJ.

Snow Shoe Disc Golf
Tim and Heather doing a little Snow Shoe Disc Golfing out on the course over Christmas.

Tim prepping for the big tee shot on Hole #16. Heather sitting down on the job after nearly acing hole 17? Testing yellow cord and flourescent string for locating discs.
Drill a small whole in a bright flexible disc (do not use white discs unless you're playing in yellow snow) and then attach a length of bright string or cord through the hole by tieing a not on both sides of the hole. We used a midrange, bright yellow Comet - they stay pretty flexible in the cold and even make the snow kind of glow a bit when they are just under the surface.
Snow Shoes make for much easier navigation of the course when there is more than a skiff of snow ... and it is fun too!
Check out our Photos section for more Snow Shoe Disc Golf action.
